Through somatic movement, yoga asana, organic movement, and writing, we’ll explore what it feels like to embody the concept of “yielding.”
In somatic practices, “yield” is considered an active state of engagement between you and whatever you are in contact with (this is the definition used by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, founder of the somatic approach Body Mind Centering®). The concept of yielding helps us move out of a state of “propping,” which can involve over-tensing and overcontrolling, or out of a state of “collapsing,” which can involve disengaging and disconnecting.
Finding our ability to yield can help us find a more connected and sustainable way of being—in our bodies, in our minds, and in our relationship with the environment around us and those whom we share it with.
Participants can expect a brief explanation of these concepts, 60-80 minutes of exploring the concepts through different movement modalities, a closing journaling and sharing session, and a savasana.
You do not need any prior yoga or writing experience to join this session, just curiosity!
